Life in Southern Spain
Elena lives on a finca in Southern Spain, where she used to breed Andalusian PRE horses. Her black stallion “Guapo XIV” has frequently appeared in her artwork and served as a very important source of inspiration. American Mutual, an Appaloosa stallion in Borrego Springs, CA - he was another very important model for her, along with the grey PRE stallions Jemalo and “Duststorm on Mars”.
Her current important horse model is the black Paint stallion “Heart".

Cultural Influences
Alongside her love for Spanish Andalusian PRE horses, she’s mostly inspired and influenced by the American Paint Horses, Bald Eagles and the Native American Wild West.

A Bold and Recognizable Style
Elena’s paintings are known for their intense contemporary movements, mostly done in earthly white and burnt umber tones, but sometimes also in strong red, blue or turquoise. Combined with thick powerful palette knife, her work creates a dynamic sense of deep connection with horses and eagles, that often appears together on canvas.
Her work is the essence of Western Contemporary Impressionism to the fullest.

American Roads
Although painting has always been the center of Elena Nevado’s life, there was a periods when she explored a very different path - working as a semi truck driver with 53 foot trailers driving across the whole of United States. Her travels through the American landscapes and being able to experience its diverse culture first hand gave her an even deeper connection to the American spirit, influences that still resonate in her art work today.

Northern Landscapes and Reindeer
Elena Nevado’s artistic journey has also taken her to the far north of Sweden, where she spent time painting reindeer and capturing the raw beauty of Lapland’s wild landscapes. The vast open spaces, dramatic light, and untamed nature of the north brought a different atmosphere to her work, adding another layer to her artistic inspiration.
